Australian light artist, designer, drawer, programmer & photographer Richard Byers is currently living in Melbourne, Australia working as Head of Concept for product design consultancy D+I.
Previously living in Japan on a Cultural Activities visa 2012/2013 & Berlin on a freelance Artist visa 2009 & 2011, Richard has worked working across the fields of illustration, photography, interactive light installation, performance and new media art in Berlin, Liechtenstein, Ishinomaki, Tokyo, Kagoshima, Brisbane, Melbourne and Sydney.
Often collaborating with musicians and other artists, including dancers and architects, Richard has a passion for light, with it’s subtle power to invoke emotion and create enjoyment through its’ interaction within our world and our sense of it.
Highlights include an invitation by the Australian Embassy in Berlin to perform in Liechtenstein at the Ambassadors Information Day 2012 for ongoing collaborative project sound.transmission.light, and artistic projects in Ishinomaki city, north eastern Japan, as part of recovery efforts after the natural disaster in March 2011, including an interactive light installation onto a tsunami damaged church building and an exhibition of photographs & ink drawings of local buildings and places requested by local citizens.

Other works include; Awarded artist in residence at the Digital Culture Centre at the State Library of Queensland Australia in 2010, performances & installation at the Sydney Opera house for Sydney Festival 2006/07/08 and photographic assignments for ARS Electronica Linz, Austria, Sonar music festival Barcelona, Spain 2010.
